This is the first full-length album from Ygfan from Budapest (Hungary). They are quite newcomers in the post Black Metal scene but Ygfan also has a very dominant Doom Metal touch in their music.
Ygfan is the name of an old, sacred forest, a holy secret place, which appears in Hungarian mythology and which is thought to be a place for religious/spiritual rituals. The sound of this 7 track album with a duration of 47 minutes fits perfectly in this setting.
The smooth guitars and progressive drumming remind me of the post-black pioneers Alcest, but the atmosphere on this album is much darker. The jangling riffing and droned clean vocals of Balint Zsolt, when he is not gasping in a furious Black Metal voice, combined with a very dominant bass gives each song his own sense of motion. The track “Csendben” is one of the best examples of technical ability.
When you are a fan of very mythical, atmospheric and folkoric post Black Metal you should definitely check out this album. (hacebo)
