Although formed in 2001 by Satanael Mordenare Raben, who also has stints with Walpurgisnacht and Cirith Gorgor as a vocalist, ‘Nietig’ is the debut full-length after 20 years of existence. Although the activity of Raben with Volc Vermaledide hasn’t been consistent within those years.
With Volc Vermaledide Raben doesn’t focus on being the fastest around or try to be a time machine to recapture Norway’s Black Metal sound around 1995, but goes for a melancholic atmosphere and ditto melody. Yet with repetitive riffs you and I are familiar with this kind of Black Metal. This all enhanced with ambient/dungeon synth keys throughout the album, which can be compared with Summoning.
A cold and epic journey, with a stellar sky and a snow covered landscape…‘Nietig’ would be a good soundtrack for it.
