Witchfukker – Tapestry of Unspeakable Horrors

witchfukker – tapestry of unspeakable horrors

Info

Off the back of the excellent ‘Deathaemorrhage’ demo, Witchfukker returns with the first full-length of the band’s career. On ‘Tapestry of Unspeakable Horrors’, they look to take their energetic, chaotic homage to the birth of Extreme Metal to the next level, and to cut to the chase: they do so with triumphant conviction.

An unsubtle band name like Witchfukker calls for music that doesn’t fill and just kills. And with ‘Tapestry of unspeakable Horrors’ the band almost effortlessly continues on their path of destruction to bring their vision of Extreme Metal to the listeners. Sadistik Exekution, Hellhammer, Messiah, Sarcófago, Slaughter, Slayer, Carcass, Mayhem, Nunslaughter or Venom, it’s a volatile mix of authentic and unfiltered extreme Metal that the duo (now trio) has created. Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Black metal, there’s something of all of these to be found in the sound of Witchfukker, but don’t expect none of the modern sound. This is late 80’s Extreme Metal worship in its purest form, in a production that wants nothing to do with the overproduced music we often face these days.

To do honour to the creations of their latest demo, all four songs off ‘Deathaemorrhage’ make their return on the album, giving them a more overwhelming and intense sound that further enhances the volatile nature of the music. Combined with four new songs and an outro, the debut album comes in at a little over 40 minutes of untamed energy and old school worship. Opener ‘Pain Beyond Death’ opens the record with a blast, presenting the primordial mix of the likes of early Morbid Angel, Carcass, Sarcófago and so on. After its rattling drums, vicious vocals and threatening groove, the fury continues with Sordid Aggression’, a song filled with tension and sudden pace changes. The riffs show some proper catchiness, and despite the wild nature of the music, Witchfukker continuously excels in delivering memorable riffs. The primitive rocking ‘Death Komes Ripping Through’ was featured on the previous demo, and mostly shows that on that demo the band was awfully close to the sound we hear on the album, it just needed to be lifted to a slightly better sound. Next we arrive at ‘Abyssal Autosarkophagy’, a song that says everything there needs to be said about the band. Just have a look at the VHS quality clip on Youtube, where a bloody cutting ritual in the name of the ancient one is the perfect complement to the raw and sordid soundtrack. Threatening in its opening moments, the band constantly switches between groove and gunfire fury as the flesh cutting commences. Onward to ‘Descension into Horrid Delirium’, a heavy sliding track where parallels with the wild Aussie bands such as Sadistik Exekution and Gospel of the Horns are most obvious. At the same time, the ancient influence of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost seeps through, something that can also be said for the chugging and threatening ‘Nymphomania’. Finally we get the final two more tracks off the demo and an outro, ending the album with the sound of the engines of horror. A fitting end indeed.

Complete with an extensive booklet full of bloodsoaked lyrical debauchery and gory illustrations, ‘Tapestry of Unspeakable Horrors’ shows that Witchfukker take their classics, influences and aesthetics very seriously. And not only do they know their Metal, they know damn well how to take the music of those role models and give it an authentic twist of their own. Violent and bloody 80’s Extreme Metal made anno 2024, best summed up by the band themselves: Kill for Metal, Bleed for Metal, Die for Metal!
