Vomit Messiah – Demo II [Demo]

vomit messiah – demo ii [demo]

Info

Last autumn, Spain’s Vomit Messiah had already caught my attention with their self-titled demo tape that was brimming with unbridled savage barbarism. Deliciously unoriginal and full of hate and rage: the demo offered satisfaction to my never-ending craving for the Bestial Black/Death Metal genre. Consequently, after the band announced its second demo, I did not wait a second to order this tape as well…

The first offering was a monstrous and thundering affair that paid homage to all the bands that made the Bestial Black/Death Metal genre sound the way it does. It was all about Sarcófago, Blasphemy, Archgoat, Bestial Warlust, Sadistik Exekution and the likes. This second demo, however, is a little bit different.

‘Demo II’ has a slight lighter sound and has a less all-devouring sound. That means it is a little less chaotic and even a little less dark. But all this is not at the expense of intensity, by slowing down a little and even adding some, dare I say it, (eerie) melodies, the music sounds more dynamic and overall sinister. The vocals also are more diverse, by adding some ghostly whispering to the barking vocals the band gives the music a genuine Beherit/Void Meditation Cult character. It all blends together perfectly and boils down to a coherent whole that is definitely worth checking out if you are into this specific genre; I am quite sure that this slower and more moody and doomy approach will be appreciated as much as the pure and almost youthful approach on the first demo tape.

Although Vomit Messiah found a way to make their take on the genre sound a bit more diverse and added some new elements to it, at least compared to the first demo, they still managed to keep the band’s very core intact. The result, however, is a more mature sounding demo of a band that has slightly stretched its view without ever hitting any progressive note. For sure, I wouldn’t mind seeing Vomit Messiah material surface on vinyl as well.
