Goatblood, or better the newly self-proclaimed The True Goatblood from Brive-la Gaillarde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine in France are an upcoming satanic Bestial Black/Death Metal band who are viciously claiming the title of “true” Goatblood for themselves by releasing their ‘Goatblood’ EP / full length album on Cabale from France, before capturing the interest of the people from abroad, namely the legendary Tribulacion Productions from Mauricio Sanchez, in a co-release with three other labels.
And thus an album was conceived.
Noteworthy there’s a German, an Australian Goatblood and bands that use this name for their band logo. I myself remember a spiteful Canadian band from the past, playing Sludge/Doom Metal.
Mika Luttinen once stated that with a bandname containing the word “goat” you cannot possibly go wrong.
Their initial ‘Goatblood’ was an EP, but here it becomes a worthy full length album with the addition of 2 tracks from a 2023 Demo. And are these French from Goatblood any true to the cause and or are they true in what they do?
A creepy dark intro with bell chimes opens up the 1st track with all the trimmings, to be followed by a massive roar from vocalist Corpse Extermination and a nuclear detonation by instrumentalist Cryptic Goathammer in the form of ultra fast/mega brutal noise and we’re off for 30 minutes full of blood-dripping virgin whores, dark priests, unspeakable acts with goats and other OTT descriptions that would send any respectable nun into a coma. Blast beating, slower and heavier parts, bestial roars, panned guitars that emerge out of nowhere, Goatblood checked and covered every aspect of this delicate genre without becoming too academic, too boring/predictable, copycat-like, uninspired etcetera.
It’s your unholiest of Bestial Black/Death Metal, well produced and with musical influences and references that you can fill out yourselves…
Critics will say, that Goatblood merely trample on well-throdden roads, and represent nothing interesting whatsoever, whereas I think it is more than a worthy debut and it pisses off my neighbours and unsuspecting men and women of the Cloth.
