Prior this new EP Opositor already released about a handful of releases, including a full-length album, all varying greatly in sound quality, but if one thing has been clear throughout all of them: Opositor is not for the weak. Their devastating and bulldozering blend of Black/Death Metal is something that definitely deserves the attention for the aficionado of all things foul and depraved. This self-titled EP with a rather generic cover might not be the most appealing release when it comes to the genre’s violent aesthetics, but don’t let that fool you…
In just under 15 minutes these Spaniards show you what they are made of. With these four tracks, amongst which the great ‘Malformations Of Doom’ from their 2015-demo makes its reappearance, the band almost obliterates their previous recordings. The much darker sound of this EP propels these tracks to new levels of brutality, paying true homage to genre giants such as Blasphemy and very early Impaled Nazarene. With this darker and more dense sound, the Death Metal side of the band shines through more and consequently they creep up to the same sort of barbarity of their countrymates Teitanblood and Proclamation. While I am sure the band will take that as a compliment, Opositor certainly also has enough to offer to claim a place for itself in the Bestial Black/Death Metal hierarchy.
In fact, I am so impressed by the riff-based violence of this foursome that I can hardly wait to see what else they will come up with. Spain has proven more than once that they can produce protagonists in this scene. Forewarned is forearmed.
