Midoran is the brainchild of Athäl’Zäckar, a French multi-instrumentalist who likes to keep a steep and steady working pace; having started in 2022 he already spawned no less than two hands full of different releases. ‘Secret Tales Of My Journey In Gnome Forest’ is the latest in that large series of peculiar and adventurous sounding Black Metal short players.

Admittedly, I haven’t heard all of Athäl’Zäckar’s previous efforts, but the overall impression is that he keeps swinging his musical in different directions, basically pursuing his wild and ever flowing creativity. While the Dungeon Synth infused (rawish) Black Metal is more or less always forms the basis of the music on offer, the musical decoration is what makes Midorian’s music interesting. On these two new tracks Athäl’Zäckar goes into a more Folkish approach, Elfish maybe even, using a flute (hence the cover) on the first track and even some almost dreamy and Jazzy direction on the last song. In just under 10 minutes Midoran leads you into Athäl’Zäckar’s imaginary world, a world in which you can actually bump into about anything. The frivolity of the music is something that needs to suit you, but it definitely brings you a unique experience that has no equal. The avant-gardism of Midoran will definitely not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are up for some fresh tunes and consider yourself not all too close minded, ‘Secret Tales Of My Journey In Gnome forest’ could be just for you.
