Niklas Kvarforth from the depressive black metal band Shining, J from the war metal band Teitanblood, and Kirill Krowli may not sound like a line-up that makes immediate sense but with Lice they form an avant-garde black metal band which creates an atmosphere full of horrors from our and at any rates from some other world. “Woe betide you” is their first album which pulls influences from several directions to create something incongruously strange.
There are so many genres and styles combined in this seven track album. You can hear atmospheric black metal, progressive rock , post-punk, blackgaze etc. The mixture of harsh, soft-harsh, and soft vocals gives an own dynamic to this kind of music. Thematically they deal with nightmarish cosmic horrors with the focus on the suffering and decay of man. Loneliness, sacrifice, intentioned violence, and disintegration are some of the themes.
I really don´t know who I shall recommend this album. If you are curious how such a mixture sounds like, give it a try. I now listened three-times to the “Woe tide you” and this will be enough for some time for sure. (HaCeBo)
