The concept of using art as a medium to fuse its essence into our very own soul is astonishing, for it is like every piece that is consumed we hunger to seek the one which transforms our very being and renders us to a new emotion that may be alien to mind. I believe that the pursuit of this feeling is what bestows the magickal property onto such works, and we are merely the vessel waiting to be filled with its evocation.
‘End of Light” by Kvlt of Odium can be looked on as a spell woven in the most feral noise, churned forth and birthed into this physical realm through the construct of Black Metal. However, it does not drape it’s bones with the flesh and masquerades itself as being cut from the same lineage, instead it welcomes the spirit of the old into its flesh, copulates with that which is ancient to craft a weapon that is honest and swift in its attack.
The candor exhaled from the album releases a fervent essence in its delivery through its instrumental architecture stripped of any adorations,instead what remains is a dissonance that is unfiltered and raw. Tracks such ‘End of Light” and ‘Desolation’ display the sentiments regarding the visceral aura captured through the release, for the composition of these tracks as well as the others which follow reveals a naked aspect to its motions. In other words, there exist not any frivolities to the riffs and percussion, for it each note is like a flayed body, where the tissue is swollen…exposed, and in my opinion, the very spirit that this album commands exudes such a feeling.
Pablo Picasso once remarked that art should be an offensive and defensive weapon against the enemy and Kvlt of Odium has bestowed such from its feral seed, for when intertwined with the mind, a bestial being emerges from its chants to snuff the tongue of that which spits the bile of the pious.
