Kiloton – Gears [EP]

kiloton – gears [ep]

Info

Because ‘Gears’ is the second Kiloton EP in an impressively short time, I would almost suggest to read the review of the first EP ‘War’ too to at least have a bit of background in what we are dealing with here. And let’s dive right into the music with this one.

We are again presented with a rather short but extremely lethal EP, fifteen minutes of nefarious and warped Black/Death Metal that is heavily laced with Noise. The result is what you could call Blacknoise, but Kiloton’s utterly savage music in fact proves that labelling is actually a futile activity. Sometimes it makes sense in order to more or less know what you are dealing with, but in the case of Kiloton it just comes down to the very essence of Black Metal and Noise, boiling together just perfectly.

Compared to ‘War’, the preceding EP the sound is much sharper and while the bass guitar still plays a major role, the band seemed to have wanted to emphasize the drums a bit more. Altogether resulting in a more frantic sound that borders the same aesthetics as some of the best Bestial Black/Death Metal bands. Yet, the noisy aspects of the band keeps Kiloton away from these very downtrodden paths and preserves its quite original musical DNA.

Those who might remember Raism, the mid 90’s Osmose Productions-released band consisting out of Mika Luttinen (Impaled Nazarene) and Magus Wampyr Daoloth (Necromantia, Rotting Christ, Thou Art Lord a.o.): just picture yourself a much noisier but certainly much better executed Raism and you have quite an idea what you’re in for when you decide to get into the world of Kiloton.
