Making their obscure presence known since 2015, Invocation, who are a Chilean Black Death Metal band are surrounded in occult based atmosphere that journeys into the depths of cryptic realms unknown. After a demo and two Eps, Invocation now returns with their first full-length album ‘The Archaic Sanctuary (Ritual Body Postures)’and presents us with a new ritual in the black arts.
Echoing screams pierce outwards like they are coming from a deep cavern in the wilderness as stomping beats of a brutal nature gives a triumphant embodiment-like texture that brings together the reeking darkness and holds it in its place. A simplistic and very effective use of distorted guitars which have a very heavy driven flow gives a ghastly tone and atmosphere as visions of evil spells and eerie conjuring come to mind bringing forth a cold realm. Like imagining that you are in a hazy smoke-filled room with black lit candles and burning incense in a hallucinogenic trance as the room spins faster and faster. All of this creates a very present and certain rawness that clearly contributes to a “Blackened” essence to this style of Death Metal that Invocation is doing.
Invocation has a strong approach and presence which reflects intensely on both their writing style and with the atmosphere and imagery they convey as seen and heard within this new album ‘The Archaic Sanctuary (Ritual Body Postures)’. This is not to be taken lightly in any way either but within this, all runs deep into dark territories and for those who see beyond and perhaps dwell or relate to the mind’s eye with hearts of darkness, archaic forces are at work and are very near.
