Hellgate Necrosodomy – The Annihilation Deliverance

hellgate necrosodomy – the annihilation deliverance

Info

Just add it all up: the band name, the Finnish origin, the album’s artwork and the fact that this record is released by Unpure Records… For the seasoned listener of Bestial Black/Death Metal, it’s easy maths. Indeed, this is Black/Death Metal of the scrappiest kind, so those who, like me, cannot get enough of this, dive right in.

Let’s put things in context a little, as the origin of Hellgate Necrosodomy’s music is for sure quite self-evident, sometimes it is all a bit too easy to draw the simple conclusions. So, while ‘The Annihilation Deliverance’ indeed bear the obvious resemblances with the likes of Blasphemy, Beherit, Teitanblood, Black Witchery and especially Archgoat, Hellgoat Necrosodomy has a bit more pronounced riffing than most of their contemporaries.

As opposed to many other bands in the game, Hellgate Necrosodomy is not much into the fast-forward and über-chaotic approach. There is a lot of heavy riffing, not much unlike some classic US-Death Metal bands from around the early 90’s, but they do combine it with a low-tuning and sometimes the sluggish pace that typifies some of Archgoat’s most savage works – including the sudden staccato bursts in tempo. Also quite reminiscent to Archgoat are the bellowing vocals of singer/drummer Lord Necrocarnager, they do add much to the unrefined, barbaric nature of the music.

Although Hellgate Necrosodomy is not reinventing any wheels here, it does bring something enjoyable to the table, even if it sounds awfully close to what Archgoat is doing, it still sounds reasonably “fresh”. That sort of freshness is, for instance, evidenced in the more atmospheric pieces, even involving some humming keyboards, that do more or less set these newcomers apart from the majority of their peers. Great and entertaining listen for sure!
