I already reviewed this album but my fuckin’ laptop decided that although I saved the review to make it disappear into thin air. Well fuck it, here’s take two. Grief Of Emerald play a very cool mixture of Death/Black Metal accompanied with keyboards, mixing influences of Dimmu Borgir with Morbid Angel. The best of both worlds so to speak.
A few years ago, many bands released albums in this style but nowadays you don’t see/hear them that much anymore. Fortunately, Grief Of Emerald deliver the goods and they do it fuckin’ good! Songs like ‘Alas, spiriti sancti’, ‘Raped by the servant of god’ (which deals with a very actual topic), ‘The cause’ and ‘Those who bear the mark’ offer some excellent fast and brutal stuff.
Some of my favorite songs are ‘The almighty is rising’ and the title track, just check out the killer riffing, the blastbeats and the dark keyboards, they rule. Fortunately, they’ve also put some killer mid-paced songs on the album with ‘Scum of the earth’ and ‘Deformed imaginations’ which guarantees the required variation.
In short, Grief Of Emerald offer us excellent song writing, killer riffs and keyboard parts, combined with a heavy production, what more could you want? Get it you wimp!
