Degraved are a Death Metal duo from Seattle who in 2020 released a debut demo entitled ‘Exhumed Remnants’. In 2021 the demo was then re-released on cassette, both by Gurgling Gore and Unholy Domain Records. Also of note is that the two members of Degraved, SC and NE, are also active in Doom/Death Metal band Cavurn, who thus far have released a demo and a live album to date. On to ‘Exhumed Remnants’ and this demo is a cloying, dank and cavernous affair, with serpentine vocal work that slithers and sneaks through the darkened depths of the abyss, intermingling with the brooding guitar tones, intertwining around the rumbling bass play, and sneaking around the drums. In truth the drums on this release are a little clunky for my tastes, and rather simplistic. It is the riffs that give this demo its edge but I do feel that the lo-fi production and murky tones probably hide a multitude of sins. So, all in all not a bad little demo but it doesn’t last long in the memory.
