Deathrite from Dresden, Germany exist since 2010 and after four full-length albums, it is time for their latest EP ‘Delirium’. The band defines its style as Death Metal/Punk and offers seven tracks of rough-sounding vocals, aggressive but with a slight melodic touch guitar riffs and pounding drums. Darkthrone was my first thought when I heard the opening title track ‘Delirium’ with its dark and ominous vibe and Tony Heinrich’s voice reminding of Nocturno Culto. Deathrite constantly change the pace – they sound slow and ominous on ‘Someone to Bleed With’ and then fast and spiteful on ‘Vortex’. They know how to make a sinister industrial noise in ‘Vicious Nights’ which is like an intro to the final track ‘Sepulchral Rapture’ where the Darkthrone worship is most evident. Honestly, I couldn’t hear anything punk in this EP, what I heard is a diabolical mix of Celtic Frost, Bathory and the above-mentioned Darkthrone. Deathrite are really good at what they do and it is creating a dark and chilling sound landscape. The sound is raw, the way it has to be for such sort of releases, but all instruments can be clearly heard. This is underground metal of great quality and these German guys deserve support from the fans of this type of extreme music. Deathrite are also a part of the legendary Century Media label so we can expect much more sonic grimness from them in the future!
