Christ Denied – Christopsy

christ denied – christopsy

Info

“Well Scream? You will blaspheme! You will no longer be responsible for your actions!”

Christ Denied rushes into a chaotic flurry of mid tempo headbangers and brutal pinch harmonic laden riffs with their third studio album ‘Christopsy’. You can tell by the track titles that this is not just some Jesus- hate Deicide worship. This is informed and makes for absolute mockery of Christ and all that is holy. When a band steps away from just a regular Judas onslaught Death Metal and creates imagery that actually mocks tradition and Judeo belief, it can be felt that the music is more complete in its intention.

As with any band’s third studio album, the songwriting becomes a little formulaic. With an attentive listen through, you find all song structures are essentially mirrored; sample, chaos pinch harmonic, mid tempo, build up, possibly more chaos, and back to mid tempo. If it wasn’t for the samples, it would be easy to get lost in an endless track loop. This isn’t an entirely bad thing though; they execute their craft exceptionally well. Despite the repetition, each riff is an absolute banger.

Though the song structure is repetitive, that does not mean the ideas in each song are derivative in nature. The riffs, the vocal patterns/style, and the drums all draw from numerous influences. Long drawn out growls and quick snappy burps are used for the spoken blasphemy, kick heavy blasts and simple snare popping keep pace of the desecration, and mid tempo trem and jarring pinch harmonics bless the listener’s ear. The fusion of different styles keeps the music fresh throughout and shows the musicianship of the band.

‘Christopsy’ by Christ Denied, to be honest, is a refreshing Death Metal album to listen to. The music is obviously not ripping off one band or another. There is no worship in this album, it is through and through Christ Denied. Every indicator in the music tells that Christ Denied sat down and wrote this album reflecting their own inner chaos. ‘Christopsy’ is the perfect blend of insidiousness and pandemonium put into ten tracks.
