Black Lycanthropy – To Dwell In Eternal Darkness [EP]

black lycanthropy – to dwell in eternal darkness [ep]

Info

In the past two years the American one-man Black Metal band Black Lycanthropy has already delivered two EP’s and a demo of which especially the last two releases are nothing short of outstanding exercises in extreme and Raw Black Metal. Black Lycanthropy is a genuine and true homage to the best of Finnish Black Metal with more than a few kind nods to Satanic Warmaster and ‘To Dwell In Eternal Darkness’, the band’s latest instalment is just another proof of that.

Maybe a little rawer than the preceding ‘Restoring Satanic Honor And Purity’, these three new tracks, clocking exactly 15 minutes, are just another testament to this young man’s ability to write memorable riffs and drench them in an authentic Finnish atmosphere. That means that each of these tracks are based on solid riffing and a catchy melody, the predominantly fast pace and the howling vocals are the proverbial icing to the cake. Of course, nothing that Black Lycanthropy is bringing to the table can be labelled as new or refreshing, but it is the sheer power and energy with which it is presented that does the main trick. For the most part, authenticity and song writing are the secret to a compelling piece of traditional Black Metal, just as is the case here.

As a whole, the three songs are a bit less intense as the ones on the previous two releases, but overall, to me it is still quite an enigma of sorts that this band has not yet been picked up for a physical release. As, basically, all of Black Lycanthropy’s work is very much worth pressing onto vinyl or getting them out on cassette tapes.
