“The lower Level of Sentience” is the first EP, after releasing 2 demos, from Astriferous from San Jose, Costa Rica and it beholds Death Metal that sounds as it should; heavy as a heavy thing! “The Lower Level of Sentience” is a great fucking title, instant and memorable.
This release is mastered by Dan Lowndes of Resonance studios, which is always a good sign in my book. The bass sound on this EP will burst your eyes out the sockets, in songs that drag you into oblivion the bass really fills the space, providing a layer for guitars to chug, tremolo and interplay on top of without interruption. Nothing ever feels empty, just your soul.
2 vocalists give a at times jarring effect to the cavernous delivery, Lyrically “Astriferous” dwell in nothingness, time and suffering. D-beats and rabid fire blasts are like kill shots. I hear a lot of Incantation in the slower sections of songs like “Ghost Universe” and “Necrohallucination”. If Carcass took a shit load of steroids they may have wrote “Myriad Of Grotesquerie”. Nasty song. Love it.
Four songs worth checking out for anyone that likes Death Metal. (Skye_Dogg)
