In 1994 the whole Death Metal scene was heavily impressed by Altar. Their anti-Christian image, the brutal Death Metal led to a huge following. Shirt, longsleeves of the infamous ‘Youth against Christ’ slogan were omnipresent.
Listening to the raging blasting Death Metal, it’s hard not to grunt along as I used to back then. These 8 songs plus intro are simply imprinted into my memory and shall remain their until eternity. And with killer songs like ‘Throne of fire’, ‘Jesus is dead’, ‘Psycho damn’ (yes, including the “godverdomme” shout) and ‘Cauterize the church council’ this is a treat for sure. Unfortunately, the band never accomplished to equal the impact made by this debut album with subsequent releases.
Even though most of their albums are excellent records, it’s ‘Youth against Christ’ which deserves the ‘classic’ title most.
