Hellbörn – Terrestrial Damnation

hellbörn – terrestrial damnation

Info

Hellbörn, or: “depending”, Hell-Börn, are a Canadian old school thrashing Death Metal band formed by members/musicians Doom (drums), Damned (bass, vocals and active in Demonarchy, Messe Noire, Satanic) and Gogol (guitars, Chaos Wasteland, Satanic, D.R.B.).

And when I say old school, I mean it: this is pure, undiluted raunchy 1980-ies Death/Thrash Metal, the likes of Possessed, old and hungry Kreator, Canadian Dissection (oh, yes!), Hellhammer, Venom, Sacrifice, Morbid Angel, … Canada has always been a very interesting country regarding original, unique and headstrong metal, just look at Voi Vod, Rush, Sacrifice, Triumph, Slaughter, Blasphemy, Revenge, Axis of Advance, the list goes on and on. And Hellbörn aren’t an exception to this rule.

What does their old school thrashing Death Metal have in store for you? Well, imagine a filthy deep rumbling bass like in Venom or Motörhead, buzz saw blade-on-sheet-iron guitars, evil snarling vocals severely drenched in the obligatory reverb and the incessant abuse on the drums is what Hellbörn offer. Nothing more, nothing less. Unbridled dirty crunching riffing on the guitars, drums that sound like you’ve been hit with the lid of a vintage trash can and that seismic bass you can actually feel all the way into your goddamn beer gut. With tracks such as ‘Rotten Malignancy’, ‘Reign of Death’, the caustic ‘Tortured Beyond the Grave’, you know you’being warped to an age of metal music untold. The music is heavy as f*ck, brutal beyond believe, absolutely not trendy nor groovy and filled with neck snapping breaks and insane vocals.

Like I said, this is a more than delightful back-to-the-glorious-past-of TRUE metal. The Possessed and Kreator vibes/influences stick by far out of the songs, but also Hellhammer, Motörhead and Morbid Angel come to mind, when listening to the doomy ‘Agonizing Mutilation’… And to top things off, the band ends the album with a hyper-ventilating cover of Possessed’s ‘Holy Hell’ from the ‘Seven Churches’ album.

These 3 guys know who their heroes were/are and they have devoted an entire band to them: Hellbörn. You’ll bang your fukkin’ head like a Parkinson patient on meth, including an instant whiplash or two while listening to this album. if the slamdancing/moshpit circuit doesn’t kill you first.

I can’t believe I missed out on their debut, as ‘Terrestial Damnation’ is the second opus, their ‘Pillage in the Land of god’ album being their 2018 debut. Not to mention their 2013 ‘Earth Punishment’ EP.

At this moment, ‘Terrestrial Damnation’ is still unsigned, but given the fact that the previous two releases had no problem being picked up by a record label, it won’t long before this second album gets a proper official release.

It’s Thrash Metal, it’s Death Metal, it’s Yippee Ki-Yay, all the way motherf*ckers. I can only give it a big thumbs up and a maxxxed out score!
