Although I must say that the times in which I fully immersed myself in the grimey world of Grindcore are half a lifetime behind me, I can still occasionally get excited by a band that does manage to strike the chord of that deep love for the genre. I do keep harkening back a bit to the classics from the golden years, but even in recent times, there were new releases that managed to capture my attention. There were bands like Pharmacist and Festerdecay, for instance, who scored high marks with their good gory combination of Grindcore and Death Metal.
Although they have yet to enjoy similar popularity, the Peruvian duo that make up Difmorfia is also one that I am gradually starting to place in that list. Their latest demo is ‘Eclosion Repugnante’, released on cassette tape via US-based Gurgling Gore. Two tracks with a total playing time of just over 7 minutes: actually perfect for this type of music.
Compared to the preceding ‘Immortal Echoes From The Unknown’-EP (2023) the band used a lot less elements of barbaric Black Metal, consequently making this new EP sound less like a Ross Bay Cult-influenced band. Instead they have opted for a more Goregrind-like approach for ‘Eclosion Repugnante’, basically positioning themselves somewhere in between bands like Mortician and Impetigo. Heavy riffs, sudden bursts of violence and lower-than-life vocals, Dismorfia has it all and presents the best of the horrific pieces of both old Carcass-like Grindcore and groovy Death Metal of the mid 90’s.
