When Indonesia and Death Metal have been mentioned in one breath, I usually think of the promos I received in the early 2000s. Bands like Siksakubur and Jasad found my mailbox with their rancid tunes…but Devoured play their Death Metal a bit different as the band members prefer Old School Death Metal as their choice of weapon. Even with deep roots in Swedish soil.
With the typical crunchy sounding guitars and influenced by mighty acts like Dismember, Entombed and Carnage concerning groove and leads, it is fair to say Devoured created an album that I’m not turning off or skipping a song when it is on. With ‘Dreaming in Red’ Devoured add strength to the Dismember influence. If you have enjoyed early Demonical, Evocation’s ‘Tales from the Tomb’ and Paganizer, you can give this one a shot.
Frankly said, the album isn’t bad and entertaining at some points, but it needs a bit more to reach the level of an album like Interment’s ‘Scent of the Buried’ to name a fine Swedish Death Metal album from the last 10 years.
