Desekryptor – Curse Of The Execrated [EP / Re-Release]

desekryptor – curse of the execrated [ep / re-release]

Info

No, this is not new material from USA’s Desekryptor. Instead this is the vinyl and CD reissue of their Caligari-released EP that surfaced during spring last year. Nuclear Winter Records saw enough in it to also present it on some nice looking “eco mix” 7” EP as well as on a shiny disc.

In four tracks, together adding just over 12 minutes, we get some meaty Death Metal in the right American tradition. Although it clearly is rooted in trademark Incantation vibes, it sounds a bit more modern in terms of its heavy and rather murky production. This way it creeps awfully close up to the “cavernous” sort of Death Metal that seems to be the current day Death Metal hype, but as opposed to many of these bands Desekryptor has actually something to offer in terms of song writing and actual riffing.

So, definitely this American duo sounds like many a Me Saco Un Ojo/Dark Descent Records band, but with a slight sense for sinister melodies and the necessary changes in pace, the music keeps you on your toes for the full ride. Admittedly, with its almost 40 minutes, the band’s full-length, released through Blood Harvest Records almost at the same time as the initial release of this EP, had a harder time keeping full attention. But these short and chunky pieces of Death Metal purism on ‘Curse Of The Execrated’ are a delicious meal for those who crave heavy, down-tuned and guttural Death Metal that breathes the Old School atmosphere but has an established contemporary sound.

Anyone who bought the in 100 copies released Caligari tape can now go for a vinyl update and those who have missed out on it in the first place have a chance for a resit.
