Black Ceremonial Kult / Shambles – Crimson Death Radiation [Split]

black ceremonial kult / shambles – crimson death radiation [split]

Info

In the latest batch of Godz Ov War Productions’ releases there are four 7” EP’s, a format I am particularly fond of, so I was happy to indulge into what the Polish label had on offer. This specific title had me even more excited because I knew neither of both bands beforehand, so while that required to do some research and extra homework, I was glad to listen to some bands that were new to me.

First up on side A is Black Ceremonial Kult, a Chilean band that despite being around already for a decade went below my radar. Their addition to this split 7” EP, the seven plus minute ‘K.M.V.CH.’-song, was proceeded with a good amount of other splits, demos and EP’s and when listening to them in succession it is clear to see that the band is still traveling upwards in terms of quality and musical maturity. Their blend of Black and Death Metal in both a dark, brooding way and a thoroughly chaotic fashion works remarkably well – at least on a short player like this. But even on a full-length record I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys could pull this off just as fine, as the music is versatile and dynamic, going from a slow and suffocating pace to sudden and violent bursts of fury. Altogether ‘K.M.V.CH.’ sounds as if a more ghoulish and all-rounded Incantation is jamming on some Black Metal song. Good stuff.

On the slipside there’s Shambles from Thailand. If we take the band name in consideration, their music indeed sounds more like some (organised) chaos than their Chilean split partner. While maybe less aggressive or profound, their overall massive sound does remind a bit of USA’s Morbosidad: heavy riffs in a huge and devastating overall production. When, again, compared to Black Ceremonial Kult, Shambles sounds less sophisticated and resourceful, but they savage way of cranking out those chunky riffs works really well.

Godz Ov War Productions proves again to be quite a good matchmaker, as teaming both  bands up for this 7” EP turned out to be great idea. Both bands, from two different continents, are not at all the same, but they do share enough of that morbid heaviness to make it a very entertaining ride. Another bonus goes to the great artwork that comes with this 7” EP.
