On this gloomy autumn day, where the sky is grey and ominous and the rain is coming down in buckets, this CD lands on my doorstep. It’s been out of print for a while and is almost impossible to find. Shame on you, record labels!
I’ve known them since their ’95 demo, which gave me a serious concussion. All 4 tracks from the demo are also on the debut CD; namely, ‘Forever the Destiny’, ‘On the Verge of Tears’, ‘Hope springs Eternal’ and ‘Weakening Trip’. Those tracks are Death Metal gems that perfectly tread the path between the old work of Entombed, Unleashed, Nihilist and the current Gothenburg style. For people who find the latter too soft and for people who found the former too hard (can that be?!), this CD is simply perfect!
Besides the demo tracks, there are 6 other tracks that easily reach the same high level. Goddamn, I’m still annoyed by the Obituary influences mentioned in a review, nowhere to be found and the criticism that the songs lack coherence is completely off the mark. What a load of crap, this CD sounds amazing, the production is just class, you can even hear the bass clearly.
Transitional phase? In some interviews, the members of this band indicate wanting to follow a path between more melodic things without losing the brutality. Stop whining about originality, name me 10 bands in the Death Metal scene that are truly original. It’s about the awesome feeling you get when you put on a genius record like this, or am I completely infected by rats?!?
Man, this band deserves your attention, you won’t get better than this. I also want to mention the beautiful photos in the CD booklet; breathtaking. Autumn Leaves that perfectly match the current (uh…) weather and brighten up my gloomy day with their brilliant Death Metal!
