Kiloton – Heart [EP]

‘Heart’ is the third Kiloton EP that was released in a series of four that further expands the audial onslaught that was set in with last year’s trio of demos. This Canadian’s music is typified by its blend of using both elements of (Bestial) Black Metal and Black Noise, drenched in an obvious penchant for the horrors of war. This EP, again clocking around the 15-minute mark, more or less continues the same pattern as its equally murderous short-playing counterparts.

Yet, comparing ‘Heart’ with, for example, its direct predecessor, ‘Gears’, this has less musical links to Raism but seems to have been forged out of the same pits that once spawned Beherit. While equally as noisy, the music here seem to purvey a bit more riffing again, much like ‘War’ – the first EP in this short series. The balance between the noisy elements and the muddy-sounding riffs do tend this EP to sound quite reminiscent to the equally adored and hated ‘Messe Des Morts’ EP from Beherit, originally released in 1993.

While not necessarily sounding like an exact copy of that infamous Beherit EP, the resemblances can definitely be found in the thoroughly bewildering and disorganised nature of the music. The comparison is mostly found in a similar sort of sound texture and general song writing, making ‘Heart’ another compelling and overall overwhelming piece of sickening sonic art by this intriguing Canadian act.
